Powdery Mold and Mildew in Your Home?
Powdery mold and mildew typically affects plants, such
as grapes, barley, wheat, and onions. If you are noticing
it in your home... look out.
When
household mold takes on a powdery form, it is usually
a sign that the mold is dormant. In other words, the
mold has lost its moisture supply and is in a "dead"
state.
There
are two problems you have to be concerned with. First,
there originally was a moisture source that caused the
mold to grow - where did it come from? Second...
what happens when the moisture returns?
Mold needs two things to survive - a moisture source,
and a material to digest/grow on. When you have powedery
mold, the moisture source has subsided.
In
this powdery condition, it is typically considered a
"safe" time to remove the mold. Using houshold
cleaners or bleach, you can scrub the mold off of walls
or drywall.
More
importantly, you MUST ensure that the moisture source
has been eliminated. Typical sources include leaking
pipes, condensation, and high humidity levels..
