Could a Mold Inspection Save Your Life?
Mold can be extremely visually unappealing. However,
there may be more mold than you realize. A thorough
mold inspection provided by an certified mold inspector
will provide you with the details you need. An analysis
of the mold count in the air, as well as the type of
molds present should be provided.
The
first important step in during a mold inspection is
a visual inspection. An inspector needs to look at and
assess the extent of water damage, mold infestation,
and cleanliness of the ventilation system. Inspectors
also use devices, such as moisture meters, to detect
hidden mold behind walls, ceilings and floors.
If these visual tests show that the ventilation system
may be contaminated, a mold inspector will probably
perform air monitoring. The mold inspection will include
the collection of air samples and incubating them in
a Petri dish for a period of time.
The
mold inspector will also collect samples of the air
outdoors, to try and determine the source of the fungal
infestation. If the outdoor mold count is greater, this
is a possible source for your mold problem. Air monitoring
will also help uncover other areas of hidden infestation.
Mold
inspectors will sample the surface of the area,
to detect the kind and extent of mold. Bulk samples
are scraped off from noticeably moldy surfaces. Inspectors
will also take samples from non-visible areas with a
swab or clear tape. These samples are then put in a
Petri dish to see how they develop. Results for this
may take up to a week.
